I certainly do know who the lady is seated next to grandpa F ell. It's Phebe Proctor Shaw Fell, his second wife. She was still very much alive when the pi cture was taken. I do believe the date on the picture is wrong and I will check it to make su re, but I believe grandpa Fell died in 1933. Someone may have dated the picture after the fac t. This was Phebe's third marriage. She was first married to a John Proctor and then Amos Sha w from the Vassar area. I have a letter from Aunt Rose Lehner about her husband Uncle Paul' s memories of Henry J. and Phebe. They were wonderful grandparents. I also have a picture o f Elizabeth T. Maurer Fell, the Fell property and the Fell tombstones taken in Ohio that I wi ll scan in and send to you. My husband retired from teaching this spring so I am hoping we ha ve more time to go tombstone hunting for people

The corrections are these: The lady seated front left is not Elizabeth T. Mauer Fell. Elizabeth Mauer was Henry's firs t wife and she died on April 7, 1892 at age 45. The lady shown as my great grandmother in th e picture you sent is, in fact, Phebe (not Phoebe) E. Meracle Proctor Shaw Fell, Henry's seco nd wife. Secondly, the photo could not have been taken in 1934 because great grandfather died on Janua ry 24, 1932, at age 90. Hope you are well and that you are enjoying this global warming summer. I have a copy of her applic ation for widow's pension dated February 5, 1932, and signed by her. You'll also note that hi s first wife--Elizabeth T. Maurer Fell--may have died on April 7, 1892, but not in Seneca Cou nty, Ohio. She and great-grandpa moved from Ohio to Michigan in 1866, and that's where she li kely expired and is buried. It never ends, does it? And, because Cousin Jack asked for it--causing me to update the document--attached is a revis ed copy of the monograph I did on great-grandfather Fell back in 1977. Enjoy
