ROSE CITY AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Needs Your Help & Contributions as the June 12th Flood has Devasted basement Records, History's of Cities, Books, PC's, Microfiche Machine, etc..etc.. (See some flood photos below)

These are a few pictures of our holdings. The stuff on the floor, most of it got tossed the second day when things were molding and falling apart. So many reference books, how to books and local histories. there were over 9 pages of books and the cost to replace those that could be was over $23,000....hope the insurance covers some of the loss.

We do need local histories from all over the state, we need paper, ink, white 2 and 4 in binders, cash is always nice. No the basement wall is not fixed, in fact there was water in there again today, that library is a sad place, it needs to be torn down and Rose City needs a new library. The basement is always damp because of the wells in town and the fact that it is at the bottom of four hills. A bowl if you want to say....

We did not know our stuff was in the basement...we were asked to pack it up and that it would be stored safely upstairs, instead it was taken to the basement. Had we known it was down there we would have removed it for safe keeping. We have more respect for the history of the area and the things that people have entrusted us with....President Cathy Snider (email of 07/15/10 & 07/19/10, edited-jeh)
