Note: Matthew 1 The Genealogy of Jesus 1 A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son o f David, the son ofAbraham: 2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jac obthe father of Judah and his brothers, 3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother wa s Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, 4 Ram the fatherof Amminadab,A mminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, 5 Salmon the father of Boaz, wh ose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jess e, 6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whosemother had bee n Uriah's wife, 7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the f ather of Asa, 8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram th e father of Uzziah, 9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the fathe r of Hezekiah, 10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the fath er of Josiah, 11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah[1] and his brothers at the time ofthe exil e to Babylon. 12 After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtie l the father of Zerubbabel, 13 Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim,El iakim thefather of Azor, 14Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the fathe r of Eliud, 15 Eliud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the fathe r of Jacob, 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, w ho is called Christ. 17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, f ourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. JACOB 'S name was changed to Israel -Genesis 35:9 After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram, God appear ed to him again and blessed him. 10 God said to him, "Your name is Jacob, but you will no lon ger b e called Jacob; your name will be Israel. "So he named him Israel. 11 And God said to h im, "I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase innumber. A nation and a community of nation s will come from you, and kings will come from your body. 12 The land I gave to Abraha m an d Isaac I also give to you,and I will give this land to your descendants after you." .He arri ved in Egypt about the year 2246, at age 130 [Gen 47:9]. . Genesis 27:1 When Isaac was old a nd his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he called for Esau his older son and sa id to him, "My son." "Here I am," he answered. 2 Isaac said, "I am now a n old man anddon't k now the day of my death. 3 Now then, get your weapons-your quiver and bow-and go out to the o pen country to hunt some wild game for me. 4 Prepare me the kind of tasty food I lik e and br ing it to me to eat, so that I may give you my blessing before I die." 5 Now Rebekah was list ening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau left for the open country to hunt game and br ing it back, 6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, "Look, I overheard your father say t o your bro ther Esau, 7'Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I maygive yo u my blessing in the presence of the LORD before I die.' 8 Now, my son, listen carefully an d do wh at I tell you: 9 Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, soI can pre pare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it. 10 Then take it to your fathe r to eat,so that he m ay give you his blessing before he dies." 11 Jacob said to Rebekah hi s mother, "But my brother Esau is a hairy man, and I'm a man with smooth skin. 12 What if m y father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a cur se on mysel f rather than a blessing." 13 His mother said to him, "My son, let the curse fall on me. Jus t do what I say; go and get them for me." 14 So he went and got them and brought them to hi s mot her, and she prepared some tasty food, j Change Date: 18 May 2006 at 01:00:00

Notes:

Began reign 12 years after the Exodus (1480 BC). Founded his dynasty in the land now called t he Dardanelles (nearIstanbul). Dardanus /King of Dardania/ MYTHOLOGY: He was said to be bor n in Samothrace, though Arcadia, Creteand Troad have also been given as his birthplace. Eithe r because of Deucalions' flood, or because of Zeus' punishment of his brother Iasion for sedu cing the goddess Demeter, he left Samothrace for Phrygia, where King Teucer welcomed him an d gave him part of his territory and his daughter Batia as his wife. Dardanus built a city o n the slope of Mount Ida and named it Dardania. Later he inherited the whole of Teucer's king dom and called its inhabitants Dardanians. The Roman version of the story told by Virgil in t he Aeneid gives Italyas Dardanus' birthplace and Corythus as the name of his real father.Acco rding to this story, he founded Cortona in Etruria and then, separating from his brother Iasi on, departed for the Troad. This story accounted for Aeneas' final settlement in Italy; for h e had received divine orders to return to the homeland of Dardanus. in Greek legend, the so n of Zeus and the Pleiad Electra, mythical founder of Dardania on the Hellespont. He was th e ancestor of the Dardans of the Troad and, through Aeneas, of the Romans. According to tradi tion, having slain his brother Iasius, or Iasion, Dardanus fled from Arcadia across the sea t o Samothrace. When that island was visited by a flood, he crossed over to theT road, a regio n surrounding Troy in Asia Minor. Being hospitably received by Teucer(ruler of Phrygia), he m arried Teucer's daughter Bateia and became the founder of the royal house of Troy. . http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=mgholler&id=I37777 Dardanus married Chryse daughter of Pallas by whom he fathered two sons: Idaeus and Deimas. W hen a great flood occurre d, the survivors, who were living on mountains that had no w becom e islands, split into two groups: one group remaine d and took Deimas as king while the othe r sailed away, even tually settling in the island of Samothrace. Dardanus and his people foun d the land poor and so most of them set sai l for Asia. Founded his dynasty in the land no w called th e Dardanelles (near Istanbul). . http://www.bibletools.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/Topical.show/RTD/cgg/ID/12025/Descendants-Zera h.htm Cheated of their birthright, the descendants of Zerah separated from the children of Israel s oon after the Exodus. This separation explains why so few references to Zerah appear in God' s Word. Some of the children of Zerah went north to Greece. Others went to Troy, near the Dar danelles, which, by the way, bears the name of Zerah's fifth son, Darda. After Troy's fall t o the Achaeans (Greeks), a group of Zerahites under the leadership of Brutus migrated to Brit ain via Malta. In England, they founded "New Troy," which the Romans much later renamed Londi nium, now London. Other Zerahites settled down in Ireland, after residing for a time in Spain, where they found ed the city of Saragossa, literally, the City of Zerah. By the time of David, a princely cla n of Zerahites was established as Ireland's royal family, ruling a part of the tribe of Dan , the Tautha de Danann (that is, tribe of Dan) of Irish legend, which had also settled there. Therefore, because of the Zerahite monarchy, the scepter did not depart from Judah (Genesis 4 9:10) with the dethroning of Zedekiah and the death of his sons. However, this fact in itself does not address the question of David's monarchy, which God sai d was to be everlasting. It fails to address this issue because Zerah's monarchy was not Davi d's monarchy. While related, they remained separate monarchies, God having established David' s much later than Zerah's. The Davidic monarchy was not linked to its Zerahite counterpart. H ence, we cannot claim that God fulfilled His promise of a perpetual throne to David through t he Zerahite monarchy.... We do not need to read too much between the lines to understand from this scripture that Irel and had diplomatic relations with the Persians, and Pethahiah, possibly of the Irish royal fa mily, was sent to Persia to represent the interests of the Jews in Palestine. That is, the Ir ish king, himself a Jew in that he descended from Judah, felt responsible for the Jews in Pal estine. Since he did not enjoy hegemony over that part of the world, he looked after their in terests through a highly placed person—virtually an ambassador—in the Persian court. Even i n today's complex world of foreign relations, this technique is a common method through whic h a leader can exercise a measure of control over an area outside his immediate authority. The marriage of one of Zedekiah's daughters—of the Perez branch of Judah—to a prince of the Z erah branch healed the breach in Judah's family. Through this healing, God » perpetuated the Davidic monarchy, as required by the unconditional promise to David i n II Samuel 7:16. The offspring of the Irish prince and Zedekiah's daughter would legitimatel y bring the two branches together indefinitely, as one family, one monarchy. » maintained the authority of the Davidic monarchy over the "house of Israel," as God pro phesied in Jeremiah 33:17.

Notes:

Builder of Troy. Tros succeeded his father Erichthonius to the throne. He gave his name to th e land (Troad) and to the people living in the Troad (Trojans). His son, Ganymede was so beau tiful, that Zeus in the form o f an eagle, abductedthe youth. Ganymede became the cupbearer i n Olympus. Zeus gave Tros acouple of immortal horses and a vine made of gold, to compensate f or abducting the king's son. . The Dardanian people were then divided into two separate group s, between his two other sons by Callirrhoë (Callirrhoe): Ilus and Assaracus.Assaracus succee ded hisfather and continued to rule at Darda nia, whileIlus chose to move closer to the sea . Ilus founded the city that he namedIlium, after himself. Ilium was, however, often called T roy, after hisfather. The two brothers began to rule two sep arate houses. . On the Dardania n line, Assaracus' son, Capys, married Themiste, daughterof Ilus and Eurydice. Capys became t he father of Anchises. Anchises was alover of Aphrodite, who bore him a son and hero, Aenea s . Zeus struckAnchises with a thunderbolt, when he boasted of having slept with thelove-goddes s. He became a cripple, unable to walk. His son ruled Dardaniain his place. Aeneas was the on ly leader, w hofought on the Trojan side, to survive the Trojan War. . MYTHOLOGY: Son of Eric hthonius and Astyoche, a daughter of the River Simois. His wife was also a river nymph, Calli rrhoa, daughter of the Scamander. Their children were Ilus, founder of the city of T roy (Ili um), Assaracus, who ruled the kingdom of Dardania, and Ganymede, the handsomeboy whom Zeus ca rried off to be his cup-bearer. To recompense Tros for the loss of his son, Zeus gave him a t eam o f immortal horses, which Heracles afterwards coveted. The land of Troy was named afte r Tros.

Note: Built the city of Ilium. Began reign in 6th year of Ehud (1322 BC). . MYTHOLOGY: He mar ried Adrastus' daughter Eurydice, who bore him Laomedon and Themiste. Migrating from Dardania , of which his brother Assaracus became king, to Phrygia, he competed in games in which he wo n a prize of 50 men and 50 girls - and a dappled cow, which the local king gave him in obedie nce to an oracle. Ilus was commanded to found a city where the animal sat down. This it did u pon a hil l near Mount Ida, sacred to the goddess Ate (Infatuation). There he founded the cit y of Troy (Ilium). When Ilus asked for a sign, Zeus sent him the Palladium, a wooden image o f Athena, which droppe d out of the sky in front of his tent. At this spot he founded a templ e for Athena. It was believed that as long as thePalladium was kept safe in the temple, Tro y could not fall. In the Iliad, Ilus 'tomb is mentioned near a wild fig tree in the plain o f Troy but it is still uncertain whether it refers to him or his great nephew.

te: Began reign abt 1281 BC (6th year of Deborah). Built the strong walls of Troy. Built th e Temple of Eleusina. . Laomedon was the son of Ilus and a king ofTroy, two of his sons wer e Tithonus and Podarces (Priam) who was later to be king. Laomedon was also very well known f or his blatant treachery. . It was Laomedon who gave Troy (Ilion) its city walls, to build th em, he persuaded Poseidonand Apollo, (who at that time had been banished from Mount Olympus f or a year byZeus, for not obeying his wis hes), telling them he would reward them well. Afte r many months of hard work the walls were finished, the finest ever seen, but when Apollo an d Poseidon asked for their reward, Laomedon refused to gi ve them their payment and drove the m away, hurling threats and insults towards the immortals. . Poseidon and Apollo returned t o Mount Olympus, as their year of banishment was complete, but the two gods were extremely an gry at Laomedon's actions. To gain vengeance over Laomedon, Apollo sent a pl ague over the la nd, and Poseidon a sea-monster. Laomedon asked the advice of an oracle to rid his land of the se hardships, the oracles reply was, Laomedon had to sacrifice his own daughter (Hesione ) t o the sea-monster. Laomedon without hesitation had Hesione chained to a rock, she lay trembli ng with fear, awaiting her grizzly end, to be devoured as sacrifice to this monster of the se a. . As if by a miracle Heracles was in the vicinity, and pledged to save Hesione after Laome don had promised him a team of matchless horses, which had been given by Zeus to his grandfat her Tros. The fear less Heracles fought and killed the sea-monster, releasing Hesione, but on ce again Laomedon broke his promise and refused Heracles the horses as reward. Heracles, ang ered by this, killed Laomedon and his sons, but spared the youngest Podarces (swift-foot) i n exchange for a beautiful veil which Hesione herself had embroidered with gold. Heracles th e n gave Hesione to his companion in arms Telamon who carried her away to Salamis in Greece.F rom that day on, Podarces became known as 'Priam' (which means "bought or "ransomed") and h e became the mos t famous king of Troy. In Homer's Iliad, Priam is portrayed as an old man, g rieving the misfortunes of theTrojans, and the death of many of his sons. . Laomedon was know n for his arrogance and impiety and as one who refused to honor his promises. Poseidon and Ap ollo, possibly punished for rebelling against Zeus, had to work for one year for a mortal . T he two gods disguised as builders, were hired to work along side with a mortal, Aeacus, son o f Zeus and Aegina, (father of Peleus and Telamon), to build the walls of Troy. Poseidon and A pollo want ed the vine of gold as payment for their work. Laomedon agreed. After the gods fin ished building the wall, Laomedon refused to pay their wages for their services. Apolloca use d the plague within th e city, while Poseidon send a sea-monster to ravage the Trojan countr y side. . The seers told Laomedon, that the land would be spare, if the king sacrificed his d aughter to the sea-monster. Chaining his daughter,Hesione and waited for monster to arrive. H eracles, who was perfor ming the ninth labour (fetching the girdle of Hippolyte), stopped atT roy. Learning what was about to happen, Heracles wanted Laomedon's immortal horses in exchang e for rescuing his daughter. Laomedo n agreed. After killing the monster, again Laomedon refus ed to pay. Heracles angry at the Trojan king's betrayal on his promise, planned to return wit h an army, after he finish performing the twelve l abours. . Heracles raised an army in Tiryn s, returned with and the Argonaut hero,Telamon of Salamis, son of Aeacus. After capturing th e city, Laomedon was killed, along with many of his sons, and Heracles gav e Heisone toTelamo n as concubine. She allowed Hesione to ransomed one captive. Hesione ransomed her youngest br other Podarces, with her veil. Podarces became king of Troy, and changed his name to Pri am ( Ransom).

Notes:

Priam was the son of Laomedon and was the king of Troy. He became kingafter Laomedon and al l of Priam's brothers were killed by Heracles in the first sack of Troy. Priam himself was th e father, by hi s wife Hecuba and other women, of fifty sons and many daughters, including He ctor, Paris, and Cassandra. He unsuccessfully defended his city during theTrojan War, at the e nd of which Troy was sacke d a second time and was finally destroyed. During the Trojan War , Priam's son Hector was killed by the Greek hero Achilles. Inone of the most moving scenes o f the Iliad, Priam courageously entered the Greekcamp by night and pleaded with Achil les t o return Hector's body for burial. Priam himself was finally killed by Achilles' son, . Linea ge based on the Icelandic prose Edda. Priam was the last King of Troy. He was the father of m any sons and daughters (50 of each according to Homer), by his wife or his concubines. His nam e became a symbol for one who has suffered extreme s of fortune. Political Events, 1193 B.C.K ing Priam's city of Troy at the gateway to the Hellespont in Asia Minorfalls to Greek force s under Agamemnon after a 10-year siege in the Trojan War (see HOMER, 850 B.C.; BYZANTIUM, 65 8 B.C.). . Being the only son of Laomedon to survive a war against Heracles, he was ransome d by his sister, and he became king of Troy. . His first wife was Arisbe, daughter of Merops , king of Percote. They had a son, Aesacus, who was a gifted seer. Priam soon married Hecuba , daughter of Dymas. With Hecuba, he became father of Hector , Paris, Cassandra, Helenus an d many other children (some say as many asfifty, by some other women as well as Hecuba). Befo re Paris was born, Hecuba had a vision, that the seer interpreted that Pari s would one-day ca use the destruction of Troy. Priam had his second son by Hecuba, exposed in the wild. . He wa s ally of Mygdonians and fought the Amazons, in his youth. Years later, Paris returned toTro y and was recognised. Their parents had forgotten the warning by the seer (possibly Aesacus ) and welcomed him home. . When three goddesses asked Paris to judge and award the golden app le to the fairest goddess, he awarded the apple to goddess of love, Aphrodite. Aphrodite prom ised him the fairest woman, Helen of Spa rta. This would result in the outbreak of war betwee n the Greeks and the Trojans. . Priam would have returned Helen, when the Greek embassy deman ded the return to her husband Menelaüs (Menelaus). But Paris prevailed upon his father to ref use. As a result the war lasted for ten year s and all butone son woulddie inthe war. His son , Helenus, also a seer, would be the only son to survive the war. .
