In the 14th century only Westminster Abbey (Westminster Abbey: A famous Gothic church in London on the site of a former Benedictine monastery) was more richly endowed and appointed than Glastonbury. The abbot of Glastonbury kept great state, now attested to simply by the ruins of the abbey kitchen, with four huge fireplaces at its corners. The kitchen was part of the magnificent Abbot's house begun under Abbot John de Breynton (1334-42). Archaeological excavations have revealed a special apartment erected at the south end of the Abbot's house for a visit from Henry VII (Henry VII: First Tudor king of England from 1485 to 1509; head of the house of Lancaster in the War of the Roses; defeated Richard III at Bosworth Field and was proclaimed king; married the daughter of Edward IV and so united the houses of York and Lancaster (1457-1) , who visited the Abbot in a royal progress, as he visited any other great territorial magnate. The conditions of life in England during the Wars of the Roses (Wars of the Roses: Struggle for the English throne (1455-1485) between the house of York (white rose) and the house of Lancaster (red rose) ending with the accession of the Tudor monarch Henry VII) become so unsettled that a wall is built around the Abbey's precincts. The Abbey Today The ruins of Glastonbury Abbey were purchased by the Bath and Wells Diocesan Trust in 1908. The ruins are therefore now the property of the Church of England (Church of England: The national church of England (and all other churches in other countries that share its beliefs); has its see in Canterbury and the Sovereign as its temporal head) . A pilgrimage to the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey was held
by a few local churches in 1924. This pilgrimage
continues to be held on the second Saturday and Sunday of
July, and now attracts visitors from all over
Western Europe. Services are celebrated in the Anglican
(Anglican: A Protestant who is a follower of Anglicanism)
, Roman Catholic (Roman Catholic: The Christian Church based
in the Vatican and presided over by a pope and an episcopal
hierarchy) and Eastern Orthodox (Eastern Orthodox: Derived
from the Byzantine Church and adhering to Byzantine rites)
traditions. Source: http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/reference/glastonbury_abbey |

HISTORIC DEERFIELD, MA (site of Indian Massacre of Deerfield's Villagers in 1704- David3 Hoyt & family members, as Captives, some perished on march to Canada, Jonathan Hoyt survived.) The Protestant culture of Reformation Europe and early America set great store on spreading the word of God through the printed word. Protestants were nearly always taught to read and write since they were expected to read the Bible for themselves. This emphasis on reading the Bible spawned relatively high literacy rates among early New England Protestants. In addition to providing religious inspiration and comfort, Bibles often served as a place to list family records such as births and deaths. This 1672 commentary on the Bible, published in Lyon, France, was written by the Jesuit priest Jacobus Tirinus. It was reportedly given to John Williams while he was in captivity in New France (Canada) in 1706.

I Remember; A Journey with my Parents, Grandparents, Uncles &Aunts & Church Heritage & Traditions I
remember, having to get dresses every Sunday in good clothes
to go to Church, then attend the Sunday School classes,
with my parents & many times, grandpa and grandma
Hoyt, and many times after church, we would go across
the street from the church to visit with Grandpa &
Grandma (Hugh P. & Kittie (Hoag) Hoyt, having dinner,
and others stopping in to talk & visit also. Grandpa
Hoyt , as well as, Grandma Hoyt would always read from
the "Good Book", and at a youung age, when Dad,
Paul M. Hoyt, could get home from the Mill on time for
Dinner, he would read from the "Good Book" or
pray before each dinner.I know my Grandnother and Mother
were involved with the Church, many times Mother, (Pauline
(Mericle) Hoyt, having to leave the house to help with
the churches activities, food, usually was made and taken
with them, whether if it was a wedding, a furneral, special
functions, etc. A;; of us children learned good ethics
and morals from parents, church leaders and teachers of
Sunday School, to the older High School times of the Youth
Group. In a small town, many of your teachers from the
Public schools, were also at the church teaching Sunday
School, too. I guess, since you carry these learned traits
and institutions, you can choice to either carry on the
same traditions, as your parents and grandparents showed
to you. Old addages of; "Cleanliness is next to Godliness,
etc. were phrases we always heard, and you know, these
phrases are not far off the true path for happiness within
oneself. Learning a spiritual life, will prepare you for
the shocks in the World and in your life, and the pitfalls
and the "Winter" times of your life, as well
as, give you a sense of a huge community passed and present
living helping you through your Spiritual & Real lifes
journey. I remember, Father entering names in the family
Bible, showing us the 'Big' (Masonic) Bible, that I hold
dearly, and is outr for viewing and reading in my computer
room to this day. Of course, all this joins with Dad showing
me the Family History, as it always seemed to generate
interest whenm we discussed religion, church and vice
versa, and when family was mentioned, the Christian aspect
of living always was present, and since Dad came from
a strick home of Hugh P. Hoyt, and Grandma Kittie (Hoag)
Hoyt would be the most gracious and kind, person, as my
Mother was, to offset this strict home, although they
both believed in good Christian Bible and wealth of learning,
as well as, learning to help other people in the community
who were not as fortuinate. Grandpa Hoyt & my father
& Uncle, Paul & Hugh H Hoyt, would give bags of
flour to the poorer of families in the community at each
Christmas Season, so they could have something to make
and eat, during the Winter periods. The Famil Gatherings
which took place often, and Family Reunions evry 5 to
10 years, is a joy, I have been able to identify most
of them in the photographs, with the help of other family
members, so that we may know who were able to attend these
Reunions and yearly Gatherings at the Huigh P. Hoyt home.
The Clinton Hoyt's have had some tragedies to overcome,
with the strong Christian beliefs and background, the
accidental deaths of young & old Hoyt's throughout
the years in Clinton, were bereaved, but Blessed, that
the ones passed on, were going to a far better place and
free from injuries and sickness. First, was the sickness
death of Nina Rood Hoyt, 16, daughter of Hugh P. Kittie
(Hoag) Hoyt, from a 3 year heart ailment, then, in the
Winter of 1923-24, a & cold, went into her glands,
(Obit). Then, Earnest E. Hoyt's son, George E. Hoyt, passed
2 months later, (no obit), on March 21, 1924. Hugh P.
Hoyt & Edward E. Hoyt had to purchase the Hoyt F-22
lot in the Clinton Roverside Cem. for both their children
in 1924. Years later, Edward E. Hoyt, was killed in a
mill accident in his & his brother's Atlas Mill, in
Clinton on Feb. 12, 1952, Next, Hugh P. Hoyt, followed
11 months later, from short sickness in FL on Jan. 22,
1953. Then, within a year to date, Mark Miller Hoyt, 11
year old son of Hugh H. & Betty (Miller) Hoyt, was
accidentally killed on U.S. 112, on his bicycle and was
struck by a car, West of Clinton near Matthews Highway.
We cherish our roots, our Christian Heriatge, our Church
& Biblical Readings, friendships gained in our Communities,
and a good sound moral conservative based living,a dn
Celebrate those Hoyt's and Friends whom have passed on.
My Mother's Familes, ther Mericles, were Christians &
pious, that attended Methodist & Presbyterian Churches,
read the Bible, and that my Mother passed on to us the
good part of being kind and considerate to others, helping
and becoming involved in Church activities. Both my brothers
attend Church regularly, help in Church and functions,
Deacons. I have been involved in several Churches, from
Congregational, to Catholic, to Non-denominationa, marrying,
lastly, in a Methodist Church of my wife, Barbara, and
she I are members.I have been in church choirs, church
men's clubs, Sunday School teacher, as well as,, involved
with support for doing yard work, painting, Christmas
time specials, and in Carolina Beach Methodist Church,
helped with churches support of Boy Scouts & keeping
their building in good shape, re-roofing, etc.I only hope
that my future Hoyt Generations will carry the Christian
Traditions, Heritage and Legacy with them, and to lead
a good life and help others in need, giving their time
and financial support, to be kind to others, as well as,
Family and Friends, and have the Love of God. On the Genealogical
Biblical side. My Father, Paul M. Hoyt always believed that were descendants of the Egyptian pharoah's time and place, and it's hard to believe that he may have been correct, and I don't know why, except I know he was knowledgeable with the Biblical Genealogy and Geographic and a Mason as well. Since the y-DNA results show that our Simon Hoyt/e markers have come from the Middle East, and could be apart of Jewish origins (E3b). I am seeking more evidence, more research that may show that we might have been in on the Great Exodeus out of Egypt, 350 B.C., and coming into Cannan, then leaving, either by Roman slaves through Italy, France, and to Ireland, Wales, England, by 50 to 100 A.D.; or by moving through N. Africa and Spain-Portugal, then into Ireland, Wales & England, probably around 300-400 A.D.We have not been in the British Isles or Europe 10's of thousands of years, as the European, John Hoyt, from Germanic and Dutch ancestry shows from the results of his descendant's, y-DNA of (R1a-R1b).
So, we Hoyt's, could very well be, of the Moses - Direct Old Testament Descendant, the very beginning of Judeo-Chritian roots, indeed!-jeh
