Hoyt * various surname derivations Note #1 -Michael's wife at the time of his death was probably Agnes. TheWest Hatch Manor Cour t refers to her as a widow who was holding atenement of the same description as Michael's an d that she was to pay afee to the lords in 1628, with Richard Hoyt (name of the oldest son of Michael) as one of her pledges(12). Bush suggests that Michael's son Johnwas born to a secon d wife about 1608. A Hundred Court record (13) of 1620says that the court ordered that Richar d Hoyt bring his brother John tobe sworn to the assize. Bush says that this was usually don e when a boyreached the age of 12, but how diligent was this in practice? Was Johnborn shortl y after Michael's 1599 record of tenancy (in which his namedoesn't appear)? Michael's daughte r Thomasine (variously spelled) wasbaptized in 1581-2. She had at least one older sibling (An ne is listedbefore her in court records. I am assuming that lists of children are byage as th ey are in probate records). If Anne was the first born, say in1580, and John was the last i n say 1600, that would span the usual 20year period of a woman's fertility. Perhaps Richard w as ordered to bringJohn to court because he had not previously. However John would have been2 0 and Richard probably would not have been involved. If John's was alate and last birth of Mi chael's wife he could have still been a minor in1620 if he was born say 1603 or 4. In any cas e no marriage records havebeen found for Michael and his wife is not named in the one baptism record. Note #1 -Bush found a marriage record at Marshwood, Dorset, of Simon Hoytand Jane "Stoodlie " in 1617. Marshwood is not so far from West Hatch(about 10 miles) to negate the possibilit y that this couple had Walterand Nicholas, but Simon was otherwise in West Hatch. Marshwood r ecordsreveal only that there were Stoodley (variously spelled) baptisms in theearly 17th cent ury, indicating that Jane's family probably wasestablished in the area when she was married . (14) John Stoodley wasamong the free tenants of Marshwood manor in 1626-41 and WalterStoodl eigh was a member of the homage jury for Whitchurch Hundred, nearMarshwood, in 1626. Given th e appearance of Walter among Simon'schildren, perhaps Walter Stoodleigh was Jane's father o r brother. Yes, I have children for Samuel Finch 1636 and Sarah Hoyt 1638 the samechildren with the sam e dates except we have a Joseph with no birth date.We have a birthplace as Stamford, Fairfiel d Connecticut died Dec 18 1752in Stamford, Connecticut. The Finch family is my husband's fami ly. He gota Finch family tree from a relative and then found a Finch family tree atthe LDS wh ich had the same names. Then while researching at the libraryhe came upon a few books calle d Families of Fairfield. There were Finchesin there that also fit into his tree. Other than t hat he doesn't haveanything else. We also have a Susannah Finch Mar 3 1673 Stamford, Conn. We have deathdates for every excep t Martha. We have heard from someone else that hasMary Hoyt on her tree. She is busy right no w and doesn't have time to getback to us yet. I have viewed her tree. We don't have any infor mationabout Samuel being married twice. We don't have any documentation and Idon't know if th e book had any either. I really don't know if he lookedbecause he was so excited to find th e Finches in there. The children of Thomas Lyon and his wife Abigail Ogden were born in the house. I visite d the Thomas Lyon House in Greenwich last month. It is presently undergoing restoration unde r the auspices of Greenwich Preservation Trust (PO Box 4719; Greenwich, CT 06831). Its heritage dates back to the family of Thomas Lyon (1621-1690), one of the earliest settlers of Fairfield County, and particularly h is son, Thomas Lyon (1673-1739) who, with his wife Abigail and their children, were the initial occupants. The house stayed in the family line of Abigail and Thomas Lyon in to the 20th Century.
