(Volume 3, page 46). All towns in Greensburg Township have disappeared. Avis, Croswell and Darlington were all stations on the Findlay - Port Wayne Rail Road. There were settlements at each station but all vestiges of buildings at those locations have long since disappeared. Flora described herself as a chubby child with long flowing brown hair. She was a witness at a trail, which she often spoke of. She also worked on the farm and milked cows. She was educated in rural schools in Ohio and Michigan through grade eight. A souvenir booklet of 1911, tells of her attending the Barne's Public School, Sub-District No. 3, Jackson Township, Paulding County, Ohio. Her teacher was Edith A. Green. Her fellow classmates were Clytice, Rodney, and Aryl Aldred. Vernice, Lyie, and Beryl Barnes, Dora, Minnie Curtis, Minnie and Joy Dennis, Reed, Howard, Harl and Carl Essex, cousins Nellie and Leona Foley, Virgil Hudson, Lenna, Zeila, Leo and Owen Jeffrey, Nieta and Meva Johnson, Flossie, Alice, Russel and Lester Kanipe, Lena Kwascigroh, Vina Newman, Clarence Wooton, and Francis Zinser. Notes:

Birth: (Volume 4, page 38), birth record index. BIOGRAPHY: Minnie Jane Curtia born 23 May 1902. Latty Township, Paulding County, Ohio. {Volume 4, page 38). She was a very small baby, har head small enough to fit inside a teacup, and to keep her warm, her mother laid her on the door ot the warming oven. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1922 and had one year or college. Minnie was employed as a bookkeeper in her younger years She then worked at a factory in Wayne, Michigan, Minnie married 9 December 1929, at the home of her parents, in Plymouth, Wayne County, Michigan, to Wilbur Albert Hill (1899- 1976), son of Henry and Elizabeth (Coopar) Hill. Wilbur graduated from Plymouth High School and his 1919, his High School year book named him most bashful and stated "Wilbur usual seen in a hurry, talking four-song, I love the ladiea, his knowledge-college professor, 10 years hence?" Minnie was in the 9th grade at the time. In 1920, Wilbur's family resided on Sutton Road, Plymouth Township, Wayne County, Michigan. His father was a father born in Ohio. His mother was born in England. Wilbur attended Coin Electrical College (about 1927) in Chicago, Illinois, with Leonard Curtis. He worked most of his life with heavy manufacturing machines, but his real love was being a "gentleman" farmer on the 10-1/2 acres just outside Plymouth on Ann Arbor road. On this land, he planted two of every common fruit tree and berry bush, plus growing numerous types of vegetables. If the harvest was too large for the family to gather, he shared it with friends and relatives. Although they were buying a home at 356 Sunset, Plymouth, they lived for a short time in an apartment right after their marriage. Minnie was helping care for her mother, who had tuberculosis, father, and three younger brothers, while working full time. When she realized it was too much for her to keep up the apartment, they moved in with her parents. They remained there until after har fathers death, in 1956. Minnie was a member of the Methodist Church for over fifty years, she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Epwerth League, the Women's Society of Christian Service, and the Child Study club, and participated in various other church activities. Craft's, tatting and crocheting were part of Minnie's early activities. She won many blue ribbons at the county fair for her handy work and baking. She once won a ribbon for the largest loaf of bread, that she baked in a round dish pan. Minnie was creative and could find unique uses for the many items she saved. She called herself "the original re-cycle". In 1962, she created a free standing Christmas tree, seven feet tall, four feet in diameter and twelve and a half feet around/,of circles cut from old Christmas cards. Each circle was backed with aluminum foil, folded over a triangle shape and stapled together. The tree rotated on its stand under the glow of three multi-colored flood lights. She also made a tree of the same material to hand on the wall. and variety of other items, such as serving bowls, candle holders and party favors. She continued to recycler by crocheting vegetable, fruit and bread wrappers into plastic ruga. She collected Elephants with turned-up trunks for good luck. Music was another of Minnie's interest. She took piano lessons as a child, on a quarter sawed oak piano her mother bought with money she saved from selling butter and eggs. (The piano was said to have been made by a blind man.) Her daughter took and taught piano lessons on that same piano many years later. In 1946, Wilbur built a cottage on Portage Lake, near Pinckney, Michigan. His brothers-in-laws, Bill and Bud Curtis, who were carpenters helped him put up the frame. Wilbur and Minnie finished the rest while camping out in a tent behind the cottage. Many family reunions was held as the lake. While in her sixties, Minnie answered an ad for an office position. When offered the job, she refused it as she just wanted to see if she could still get an office job after being away from it for so many years. Minnie and Milbur enjoyed traveling, having been all over the fifty states, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada. She joined sister. Flora Rorabacher, and nieces Patty and Julie Johnston, on many fimily history searching trips through Ohio, to help create this history. Minnie and Wilbur were planning a trip to British Columbia. Canada, at the time of Wiibur's death. After several heart attacks. Wilbur passed away on 21 March 1976. while driving from his daughter's home on Squaw Lake, near Linden, Michigan, Minnie, a passenger in the car, was not hurt. Services were held, at Schrader Funeral Home and burial took place at Riverside Cemetery. In 1967, Minnie, had surgery to remove a pre-cancerous polyp. This resulted in her having a colostomy, because she alao had ulcerative colitis and the colon could not be reconnected immediately. The next year another polyp was removed and she was hospitalized with a blood clot in her thigh. In June of 1991, she had a bout ot colitis which could not be controlled. That July she fell in her home on Sunset, because the steroid medication ahe was taking to help control the colitis, had affected her muscle and made her so weak, she could not get up. Minnie lived with her daughter until she was admitted to St. Joseph Hospital, Washtenaw County, Michigan, with an infection between her skin and the muscle of her abdomen. Surgery was performed in an attempt to control the infection but Minnie died immediately after the operation on 10 October 1991, Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan, at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 13 days. The cause of death was listed as cardiovascular collapse due to overwhelming sepsis due to ulcerative colitis. (DX-LF2250 - 0599486). The funeral service was held at Schcader Funeral Home, with Sanford Burr, a long time family friend, officiating. Burial took place 13 October 1991, at Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth, Wayne County, Michigan, nextt to her husband, Wilbur. dild-- . BURIAL: Services were heldat Schrader Funeral Home, with Sanford Burr,Officiating. Buried next to her husband, Wilbur.
