PEGGY'S OBITUARY Peggy Louise (Hoyt) Lenz was born into eternal life on Sunday, December 31, 2023, in the caring presence of her family during her stay in hospice care. Her long and valiant fight against metastatic breast cancer demonstrated her strength and resilience. Born on May 19, 1944, in Tecumseh, Michigan, to Hugh H. and Elizabeth A. (Miller) Hoyt, Peggy's life was a testament to love, dedication, and service. Peggy grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and was a Scott High School graduate, marrying her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) J. Lenz, Jr., in 1968. Their 45-year marriage was a journey of love and partnership, blessed with three sons, BJ, Peter, and Karl, and further joyed by her five grandsons. Peggy's role as a wife, mother, and grandmother was filled with unwavering love and commitment. A passionate advocate for fitness and wellness, Peggy dedicated herself to teaching senior citizens about the importance of flexibility and maintaining an active lifestyle. She was a Body Recall program instructor for 13 years and the founder of the Move 2 Improve program, which she taught and directed for 14 years. Her zest for life was evident in her achievements. She was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Public Speaking Course, the first certified level one rollerblade instructor in Toledo, and a three-time participant in the MS: Bike to the Bay event bringing awareness to Multiple Sclerosis. Peggy's community involvement was extensive and heartfelt. She was a devoted scouting mom, helping all three sons achieve their Eagle Scout rank, a supportive member of the Mother Support Group at Ottawa Hills High School for 20 years, and an active member of Hope Lutheran Church and later Pathway Community Church. She took great joy in supporting her grandsons at their sporting events, always being the most enthusiastic cheerleader from the sidelines. Peggy was an avid Buckeye fan, her passion further fueled by her pride in her sons' attending The Ohio State University. Her career as a graduate surgical technician at St. Vincent and Doctor's Hospitals showcased her dedication to helping others. Peggy's care extended beyond her professional life, as seen in her 14 years of caregiving for her husband, her volunteer work at the Child Life Center at Toledo Hospital, and her involvement with pediatric patients in the Smiles with Style Program where she spent 3 years helping to bring joy and brighten the days of those hospitalized. After moving to the Otterbein Senior Life Community in 2019 to be near family, Peggy continued her service as a Birthday Committee volunteer and a Friend of the Mason Public Library. Peggy leaves behind a legacy of love and service, survived by her sons William “BJ” Lenz III, Peter (Carolyn) Lenz, and her adored grandsons Maxwell, Wyatt, Andrew, Hugh, and William Lenz, siblings Hannah Wilson, Hugh (Joan) Hoyt, Bernie (Laura) Hoyt, Mary Vetter, in-laws Jan Hoyt, Charles Lenz, Carol (Paul) Doerfler and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William J. Lenz, Jr., her son Karl H. Lenz, brothers Mark Hoyt and Brett Hoyt, and in-laws Eugene Wilson, Eileen Lenz, and Gerald Vetter. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Peggy's life on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Pathway Community Church, 2160 Eastbrook Drive, Toledo, OH 43613. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 am followed by the funeral service at 11 am. Reverend Linda Davison will officiate, with interment to follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. OBITUARY William J Lenz Visitation: Tuesday, Jul. 2, 2013 . William J. Lenz Jr., MD, 68, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at his home after a lengthy and valiant battle with multiple sclerosis. He was born February 7, 1945, in Toledo where he grew up and spent the majority of his life. Graduating from Scott High School in 1962, he went on to earn his BS degree in pre-med from The Ohio State University. He remained at OSU to earn his medical degree and served honorably as a Lt. Commander in the Navy during the Vietnam War after completing his internship and residency training in psychiatry. Bill dedicated his life to the less fortunate and served the greater Toledo area mental health community throughout his entire career. He was employed at the former Toledo Mental Health Center, where he retired in 2000. He also worked at the Wood County Mental Health Center, the Rescue Crisis Center and the Elizabeth A. Zef Center. Bill taught at the former Medical College of Ohio, now called UTMC, where he earned accolades and awards for his teaching of the residents in the department of psychiatry. At the conclusion of his illustrious career, he was awarded the inaugural recipient of the American Psychiatric Association's George W. Bartholow Award for Outstanding Service and Leadership in the Field of Psychiatry. Bill was an active member in Scouting for 16 years and mentored his 3 sons on to earn their Eagle Scouts. He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church for 17 years and more recently was a member of Pathway Community Church. He was an avid fisherman, a skilled and creative wood craftsman and an Ohio State Buckeye fan. Bill's zest for life was displayed during his fishing trips to Northern Canada, as well as building wooden toys in his workshop for relatives. Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Peggy L. Lenz; sons, William J. Lenz III (Paula), Peter H. (Carolyn) Lenz and Karl H. Lenz; grandchildren, Maxwell P., Wyatt W., Andrew S., Hugh F. and William R. Lenz; his father, William J. Lenz Sr.; brother, Charles A. (Eileen) Lenz and sister, Carol A. (Paul) Doerfler. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret F. Lenz. Friends are invited to visit on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue, (west of Corey). Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., at Pathway Community Church, 2160 Eastbrook Drive, Toledo, OH 43613, with the Reverend Linda Davison officiating. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 River Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551 or Pathway Community Church. 02-28-2008 3 new photos emailed to me from P. Lenz. (check above photos or the albums slideshow link above) 06/04/2007 Hi J., we have a another grandson: 06/11/07-Update--- Mom and baby W. are both home now! W. was
discharged from the NICU today (Sunday) and continues to feed
like a hungry little man! His weight is currently at 4 pounds
4.6 ounces and Mom is feeling a lot better. In fact, C. is able
to ambulate and her vision has improved markedly. Check out
the link below to see the official hospital photos of W.! Note:
you don't need to order any becasue we already have some and
will be mailing them this week.
06/03/2006 We Have news!!!! P. and C. are now the proud parents
of little C.'s doing well in the hospital this morning. She has developed pre-eclampsia, which can complicate the pregnancy. The good news is that her blood pressure and platelet count have both stabilized and she's feeling great and baby is also doing great.
