Prior to his retirement wa s employed for over 20years at General Motors in Grand Rapids in the Maintenance Department.H e was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army overseas,he frought (sic) at t he Battle of the Bulge, he also received the PurpleHeart and several other commendation medal s. He was a member of theGrand Rapids VFW post. He is survived by his wife Lucille, one daug hterMrs. Richard (Mary) Cooper of Kalamazoo, one grandson Rich, two brothersJohn and Robert C rittenden of Mayfield, California, one sister, Mrs.Grace Bailey of Riceville, Tennessee. The secondsister was Grace Luellla Crittenden (Bailey) who was an element ary schoolteacher. I got to know her and she died 12/29 (somewhere in the '90s) She gave alot of money to missions. The brothers who are not buried thereare: Arlie Crittend en (buried in Kalamazoo, MI), John Crittenden andRobert Crittenden who lived in California an d were cremated and thecremains were scattered in the sea. Hoyt * various surname derivations Note #1 -Michael's wife at the time of his death was probably Agnes. The West Hatch Manor Cou rt refers to her as a widow who was holding a tenement of the same description as Michael's a nd that she was to pay a fee to the lords in 1628, with Richard Hoyt (name of the oldest so n of Michael) as one of her pledges(12). Bush suggests that Michael's son John was born t o a second wife about 1608. A Hundred Court record (13) of 1620 says that the court ordered t hat Richard Hoyt bring his brother John to be sworn to the as size. Bush says that this was u sually done when a boy reached the age of 12, but how diligent was this in practice? Was Joh n born shortly after Michael's 1599 record of tenancy (in which his namedoesn't appear)? Mich ael's daughter Thomasine (variously spelled) was baptized in 1581-2. She had at least one old er sibling (Anne is listed before her in court records. I am assuming that lists of childre n are by age as they are in probate records). If Anne was the first born, say in1580, and Joh n was the last in say 1600, that would span the usual 20 year period of a woman's fertility . Perhaps Richard was ordered to bring John to court because he had not previously. However J ohn would have been 20 and Richard probably would not have been involved. If John's was a lat e and last birth of Michael's wife he could have still been a minor in1620 if he was born sa y 1603 or 4. In any case no marriage records have been found for Michael and his wife is no t named in the one baptism record. It is notable that daughters named Agnes were born to Simo n and Richard Hoyt in West Hatch. Hoyt * various surname derivations Note #1 -Michael's wife at the time of his death was probably Agnes. The West Hatch Manor Cou rt refers to her as a widow who was holding atenement of the same description as Michael's an d that she was to pay a fee to the lords in 1628, with Richard Hoyt (name of the oldest son o fMichael) as one of her pledges(12). Bush suggests that Michael's son John was born to a seco nd wife about 1608. A Hundred Court record (13) of 1620says that the court ordered that Richa rd Hoyt bring his brother John to be sworn to the assize. Bush says that this was usually don e when a boy reached the age of 12, but how diligent was this in practice? Was John born shor tly after Michael's 1599 record of tenancy (in which his name doesn't appear)? Michael's daug hter Thomasine (variously spelled) was baptized in 1581-2. She had at least one older siblin g (Anne is listed before her in court records. I am assuming that lists of children are by ag e as they are in probate records). If Anne was the first born, say in1580, and John was the l ast in say 1600, that would span the usual 20 year period of a woman's fertility. Perhaps Ric hard was ordered to bring John to court because he had not previously. However John would hav e been 20 and Richard probably would not have been involved. If John's was a late and last bi rth of Michael's wife he could have still been a minor in 1620 if he was born say 1603 or 4 . In any case no marriage records have been found for Michael and his wife is not named in th e one baptism record. It is notable that daughters named Agnes were born to Simon and Richar d Hoyt in West Hatch. John Haight (or Hoit), eldest son of Simon was born at Dorsetshire, England in 1614, and died at Rye, Westchester County, N. Y., Sept. 1, 1684. He was in his fourteenth year when he accompanied his father to America. He lived for some years in Fairfield County, Conn., and in 1665, removed with his family to Westchester County, N. Y., purchasing a large strip of land from Thomas Pell, whose name is perpetuated in the naming the towm of Pelhum in Westchester County. John Haight married, daughter of John Budd, and their children were: Samuel, Mary. Rachel, John and Simon. . Another talks of 2 Mary's that John Hoyt, Haight married: Mary Jewel that had dau. Mary. and a Mary Brundish, Brundage, as a 2nd wife.
