(The old records show several strange amd inconsistent ways of spe lling the name.) Christopher Merikle was probably another brother. Apparently Jacob and Chris topher both sided with the Tories during the Revolutionary War and Jacob and his family fle d to Canada. Christopher's family (also called Christian?) may also have gone to Canada. He w as later cited by the "Conspiracies Commission" for having "assisted the enemy". Frederick po sted bond for his brother. Some members of the families may even have participated in the rai ds on the Schoharie Valley. Michael was killed in one of these raids as was Frederick's daugh ter Catherine.
